मला मास (अधिक मास / पुरुषोत्तम मास / मल मास) एउटा अतिरिक्त चन्द्र महिना हो जुन हरेक करिब ३२ महिना १६ दिनमा एक पटक नेपाली पात्रोमा थपिन्छ। यो महिना चन्द्र वर्ष (३५४ दिन) र सौर वर्ष (३६५ दिन) बीचको ११ दिनको फरकलाई मिलाउनको लागि थपिन्छ।
२०८३ मा यो अधिक जेठ महिना को रूपमा आएको छ — अर्थात् जेठ महिना यस वर्ष दुई पटक आउँछ। पहिलो जेठ नै मला मास हो (जेठ ३ देखि आषाढ १ सम्म)।
Mala Maas (also called Adhik Maas, Purushottam Maas, or Mal Maas) is an intercalary lunar month added approximately every 32 months and 16 days to the Nepali BS calendar to synchronize the lunar year (354 days) with the solar year (365 days). The difference of ~11 days per year accumulates to a full month every 2 years and 8 months.
In 2083 BS, it appears as Adhika Jestha — Jestha month comes twice this year. The first Jestha (the extra month) is the Mala Maas, running from Jestha 3 (May 17, 2026) to Ashadh 1 (June 15, 2026).

हिन्दू पात्रोमा प्रत्येक महिनामा सूर्य संक्रान्ति (सूर्यको एक राशिबाट अर्को राशिमा प्रवेश) पर्नुपर्छ। जुन महिनामा सूर्य संक्रान्ति पर्दैन, त्यो महिना अधिक मास बन्छ। चन्द्र वर्षमा ३५४ दिन हुन्छन् तर सौर वर्षमा ३६५ दिन हुन्छन् — यो ११ दिनको फरकले हरेक ३२–३३ महिनामा एक पूरा महिनाको अन्तर पुर्याउँछ।
In the Hindu Panchanga system, every lunar month must contain a Surya Sankranti (the Sun's transition from one zodiac sign to the next). The month in which no Surya Sankranti occurs becomes the Adhik Maas. The lunar year has 354 days; the solar year has 365 days — this 11-day difference accumulates every 32 months and 16 days to exactly one full lunar month, which is then inserted as the extra month.

पुराणका अनुसार, यो महिनाको कुनै आफ्नै देवता नभएकाले यो महिनाले आफूलाई भगवान विष्णुको शरणमा गयो। भगवान विष्णुले यस महिनालाई आफ्नो महिना घोषणा गरी पुरुषोत्तम मास नाम दिए। उनले यस महिनामा गरिएको जप, ध्यान, दान र पूजाले अन्य महिनाभन्दा सयगुणा बढी फल दिने आशीर्वाद दिए।
यस महिनालाई आध्यात्मिक अभ्यासको सर्वोत्तम समय मानिन्छ — भागवत कथा सुन्ने, मन्त्र जप गर्ने, दान गर्ने र तीर्थयात्रा गर्ने उत्तम अवसर।
According to Hindu scriptures, since this month had no presiding deity, it approached Lord Vishnu for shelter. Lord Vishnu adopted it and named it Purushottam Maas — "The Month of the Supreme Being." He declared that prayers, japa (chanting), charity (daan) and devotion performed during this month yield 100 times more spiritual merit than during any other month.
It is considered the best time for spiritual practice — listening to Bhagavat Katha, chanting mantras, performing charity, temple worship and pilgrimage.
